NEWARK, NJ (November 12, 2025) – There are major transportation, healthcare, infrastructure, and education construction investments coming to Essex County. NJ Alliance for Action got first-hand details on the upcoming work and opportunities to get involved at the Essex County Chapter Meeting this morning.

“Essex county is a hub for business, education, and transportation in our state,” NJ Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan said. “The investments outlined today will continue to reshape the region and improve the lives of all who live and work here.”

Speakers across various sectors shared details on upcoming construction in the region.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority Senior Supervising Engineer Lisa Navarro outlined final permits and steps for the Newark Bay Bridge.

NJ TRANSIT Senior Vice President of Capital Delivery Bill Brooks gave an overview of capital plans including $814 million in station improvements. Current investments include Newark Penn Station improvements, Kearney Point Bus Garage upgrades, and over 1000 new buses and multi-level rail cars.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Design Program Manager Kess-Ann Grant detailed ongoing redevelopment at Newark Airport including $3.5 billion investment to Newark Airport Airtrain, $160 million investment in EWR Access project, and new Terminal B planning efforts.

University Hospital Chief Legal Officer McKenzie Wilson and Rutgers University Vice President of Planning, Development, and Design & University Architect David Schulz gave details on the $750 million renovation of Rutgers Medical Sciences Building and a total investment of $2.5 billion across the University Hospital campus over the next nine years.
