“The New Jersey Alliance for Action urges the court to rule promptly in the case brought by the Gateway Development Commission to force the federal government to release funding it has already committed to the Hudson Tunnel Project.

Stopping this project isn’t an option. It’s lunacy and bad public policy. Gateway’s the most important infrastructure investment in the nation. It’s critical to the region’s mobility and to our nation’s economy. Nearly 200,000 daily commuters and roughly 20 percent of the nation’s economic activity depend on this corridor. Allowing construction to shut down places workers, commuters, and the broader economy at risk.

Alliance Senior Vice President Chris Hartman and I were there on a hot July afternoon back in 2024 when the federal government formally agreed to fully fund this project. That agreement was clear. It was celebrated. And it was supposed to provide certainty so this historic investment could move forward without disruption.

The federal government must now honor its commitment. Freezing contractually obligated dollars and forcing the project into court is unacceptable and unnecessary.

Every day of delay threatens jobs, safety, and economic stability. The funding is in place. The agreement is in place. The work is underway.

It’s time to release the money, keep construction moving, and deliver the infrastructure this region and this nation depend on.”
