EDISON, NJ (October 23, 2025) — PSE&G’s Vice President of Competitive Transmission Mike Kayes and Vice President of Asset Management & Planning Ed Gray attracted a full house this morning at the New Jersey Alliance for Action’s Future of Energy Construction with PSEG program. Both stressed that uncertainty in the energy markets is creating an energy shortage and, as a result, increasing prices.
As the gap between New Jersey’s energy needs and in-state supply continues to grow – New Jersey currently imports 40-50% of its energy — the supply shortage could escalate from affordability pressure to a reliability problem.
“Rising energy costs have left utilities like PSE&G taking the blame for rising bills – a problem it did not create,” Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan said. “There is no short term fix; New Jersey needs to generate new power. Simply said, ‘New Jersey needs more juice.’”
Both speakers described today’s market conditions as both a challenge and an opportunity for New Jersey. They said it’s time for the state to take charge, by developing a plan that directs utilities to build new generation capacity in phases, ensuring reliability, affordability, and environmental responsibility.
As the state’s infrastructure advocate, the Alliance for Action will continue bringing together the leaders, ideas and partnerships needed to strengthen New Jersey’s energy network, ensuring that the power driving our economy remains affordable, reliable and ready for the future.
