January 24, 2024: NJ BPU Awards Two New Offshore Wind Projects Totaling 3,742 MW of Power

The Board of Public Utilities has selected 2 projects to develop and provide offshore wind power to New Jersey.  The NJBPU announced 3,742 Megawatts of offshore wind power projects were awarded to:

  1.  Invenergy’s Leading Light Wind – 2400 MW
  2.  Attentive Energy – 1342 MW

These projects together will more than double the total being planned by Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, the only other company currently developing wind power off the coast of New Jersey.   The announcement marks a significant step toward achieving New Jersey’s goal of creating 11,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy – enough to power more than 3 million homes, by 2040.

“Offshore wind is creating a new industry in New Jersey,” said Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan.  “It means thousands of good-paying construction jobs, reliable energy and a cleaner environment.  This is a historic day for New Jersey’s future job growth and quality of life.”

The NJBPU is set to take applications for another solicitation of offshore wind capacity before the end of April.
