March 18, 2024 – Both the State Senate and State Assembly today voted to approve S-2931/A-4011, legislation that would provide for the seventh renewal of the Transportation Trust Fund since its original passage in 1985.

“With the advocacy of the New Jersey Alliance for Action and many others, we are delighted that this renewal of the Trust Fund will now head to Governor Murphy for his signature,” said Jerry Keenan, President of the New Jersey Alliance for Action. “The Transportation Trust Fund is not only a transportation program. It’s a jobs and economic development initiative as well.”

The new reauthorization would provide for more than $2 Billion in road and mass transit funding annually, and also provide funding to more than 500 local projects that benefit counties and municipalities. The fund is supported by a 1.9-cent annual increase in the gas tax and by a new fee on electric vehicles.

Since the introduction of the bills earlier this month, the NJ Alliance for Action has participated in every Assembly and State Senate committee hearing on the legislation.
