MONROE, NJ (March 13, 2025) – New Jersey Turnpike Authority Chief Engineer Dan Hesslein highlighted more than $6 billion in upcoming investment at The Alliance for Action’s Inside Scoop meeting Thursday morning.

A crowd of over 200 attended, not only to hear about the exciting work at the NJTA, but to network among the dozens of NJTA staff pushing that work through from start to finish.

“Turnout like this speaks volumes about the scope of work being discussed today and the value of these events,” New Jersey Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan said. “The Alliance for Action is thrilled to have so many members of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority joining us this morning.  This is how we open doors and create pathways for vital projects to get done, and get done right.”

Hesslein said the spending across the next several years will be dedicated to roadway improvements, bridge preservation and security, facilities, pavement resurfacing and more. This work is planned and committed, as the Turnpike relies solely on the tolls generated along the length of its toll roads. Hesslein said the work will be not subject to any changes in federal funding, and it’ll take place under new regulations and contractor classifications that he detailed to those in attendance.

The NJTA’s current signature projects are the planned overhaul of the Newark Bay Extension and the widening between Exits 1-4 on the Turnpike. Contracts for both projects are expected to be awarded this year.  Again, those in attendance received details and the timeline. There are also key upgrades planned for the Garden State Parkway, Hesslein said.

Keenan said the Alliance will be there to support all these efforts and more by the Authority.

Following the meeting, Alliance members got to “continue the conversation” for well over an hour with our speaker and key Turnpike staff. It was a great morning for gaining knowledge and making contacts.
