EDISON, NJ (July 21, 2025) – New Jersey’s largest water company, New Jersey American Water invests more than half a billion dollars annually on its infrastructure to improve water quality and reliability for its 2.9 million customers. The man leading this effort, New Jersey American Water President Mark McDonough, joined the New Jersey Alliance for Action this morning as a part of the Inside Scoop series to share the latest details on ongoing and upcoming capital work from the utility giant.
“New Jersey American Water’s non-stop infrastructure investments provide the safest and most reliable service possible for New Jersey residents,” said NJ Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan. “Not only is New Jersey American Water providing clean drinking water and vital wastewater management with these upgrades, the company is also creating a constant stream of work that boosts the economy and keeps New Jersey ahead of the curve on environmental standards.”
New Jersey American Water has invested $5.2 billion toward system improvements since 2010, with $520 million invested in 2024 alone. Major investments are currently being geared towards lead service line replacements, PFAS remediation, and increased resiliency.
McDonough also said that the utility is working towards the conscious acquisition of wastewater systems. Bound Brook and Salem are the two most recent acquisitions and will require upgrades and repairs to increase resiliency.
McDonough also detailed NJ American Water’s emphasis on affordability and community partnership. The utility has managed to keep customer costs down to 1 cent per gallon. It is also investing back into the community through multiple grant and workforce development programs.
