Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan receiving pen from Governor Phil Murphy at bill signing.

March 26, 2024 – More than $10.5 billion of transportation infrastructure commitments became reality this morning when Gov. Murphy signed legislation reauthorizing the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund (TTF).

The funding guarantees five years of crucial road, bridge, rail, and tunnel improvements – investments that are the lifeblood of communities across the state.

Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan, Senior Vice President Chris Hartman, and Board Chair Amanda Del Bene were invited to the bill signing. Jerry and Chris had attended several meetings and spoken in support of the TTF bill during legislative committee meetings over the past several weeks.

“This is a historic day for New Jersey,” Keenan said. “Historic for everyone who lives, works, plays, and visits here. Without this funding, our communities would suffer.

“It’s New Jersey’s biggest transportation funding decision in eight years and a great accomplishment for everyone who worked together to see this through,” Keenan added. “These projects create jobs and opportunities. The jobs mean careers and the ability to put down roots here. And the opportunities? They’re everywhere. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to work, the Shore or to visit family. We all want safe and reliable transportation options.”

The Transportation Trust Fund ensures vital NJ Department of Transportation and NJ TRANSIT infrastructure improvements keep moving forward.  It also annually supports more than 500 county and local road and bridge improvement projects, touching every corner of the state. Without a renewal, the TTF would have expired on June 30. These projects and others, along with thousands of jobs and economic benefits, would have potentially ground to a halt.

The NJ Alliance for Action was among the first supporters of the original Transportation Trust Fund in 1984. The TTF was last renewed in 2016.

The Transportation Trust Fund is a linchpin example of the Alliance’s mission to improve New Jersey’s economy through the promotion of environmentally friendly capital construction and infrastructure investment. With the Transportation Trust Funds renewal, we’re Building a Better Future.
