EDISON, NJ (February 20, 2025) – NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri sold out NJ Alliance for Action’s Inside Scoop meeting Thursday morning, drawing in an overflowing crowd eager to hear his plans for the agency.

Kolluri announced a new milestone in the drive to complete the Portal North Bridge. The final of three spans across the Hackensack River has arrived and will be put in place the weekend of February 22nd,  meaning the bridge is well on its way to completion by 2026.

“The Portal North Bridge is a foundational piece of the Northeast Corridor,” Kolluri said, explaining the impact these improvements will have for riders.

He outlined an ambitious agenda for the next twelve months and called it part of the $8 billion in capital spending set to move forward in the next three years – part of NJ TRANSIT’s Five Year Capital Program.

Key capital projects include Penn Station in Newark, the Raritan River Bridge and the Delco Lead Yard, as well as upcoming construction of the new Walter Rand Transportation Center and New Brunswick train station.

“I feel a tremendous obligation to make sure I do everything I can to make sure we set the foundations of this organization going forward the right way,” Kolluri said. “What you should expect from me in the next 12 to 13 months is someone who will not shy away from calling out stuff when I see it as wrong, will not shy away from taking blame when it is right, and will not shy away from a fight when I think it is right for the agency.”
