MONROE, NJ (May 6, 2026) – The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is currently executing an historic $45 billion capital program, and key leaders driving this investment forward joined NJ Alliance for Action this morning to detail upcoming construction opportunities and major projects. The program, hosted in partnership with the Professional Women in Construction (PWC), featured insights from new Deputy Executive Director Jean Roehrenbeck, Chief Engineer Rizwan Baig, and chief of Major Capital Projects Steve Plate.

“The Port Authority’s capital program is historic, not only for its massive investment of $45 billion, but because of how the agency is reimagining and transforming how people and goods move through the region,” said NJ Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan. “This is the infrastructure of the future: smoother commutes and travel, more efficient business, tens of thousands of jobs created, and environmental protection and economic impact built to last.”

Deputy Executive Director Jean Roehrenbeck began the program with opening remarks and an emphasis on the need behind the Port Authority’s capital program.

Rizwan Baig outlined the major goals of the capital plan calling it “A Decade of Big Ambition”.

The program continues an unprecedented rebuilding program, finishes major capital projects already underway, and aggressively advances the Port Authority’s renewal and transformation agenda. It is expected to create over 50,000 jobs including more than 33,000 union construction jobs.

Steve Plate shared updates on current major capital projects and details on upcoming work, focused mostly on the Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement Project, the Dyer Deckover Project, and continued work with the Gateway Program.

It was also announced that the Ports of Elizabeth and Newark have again become the busiest in the nation.
