Newark, NJ (October 3, 2024) – Attendees at the Alliance for Action Essex County Chapter meeting got inside details on game-changing, jobs generating projects – active through the rest of this decade and beyond.

Leaders of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, Rutgers Health, University Hospital , Essex County and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center outlined tens of billions of dollars’ worth of new projects.

Lisa Navarro, Senior Supervising Engineer,  gave the latest details on the largest upcoming construction initiative featured at the meeting – the $10.8 billion Newark Bay Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike.  The Turnpike Authority says the five-year project will break ground in 2026.

Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Senior Design Engineer Tom Lemanowicz detailed incredible upcoming road projects at Port Newark and Elizabeth and said plans at Newark Liberty International Airport call for a new runway, a new Terminal B, vastly improved access to the airport, and a new Air Train.

David Schulz, Rutgers University Architect, and University Hospital SVP Jennifer Denault outlined the proposed construction of a new University Hospital. That project will cost more than $1.5 billion over the next ten years.

NJPAC Senior Vice President Tim Lizura showed how the City of Newark will get new housing and educational facilities around the Performing Arts Center, starting later this fall.  That project is worth nearly $340 million.

Needless to say, lots is happening in Essex County.
