May 22, 2024 – Wrapping up a busy month for the Alliance, we partnered with the Professional Women in Construction New Jersey Chapter on Wednesday morning to host the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey team, Rizwan Baig, Chief Engineer, and Steve Plate, Chief of Major Capital Projects.

Rizwan gave an overview of the various assets the Port Authority maintains such as airports, tunnels, bridges, bus terminals, marine terminals, PATH and WTC.

More details were provided on current and upcoming construction of major capital projects including GWB “Restoring the George”, EWR Redevelopment, the new EWR Airtrain, and more.

Collaboration is a large part of what the Port Authority does. Steve and Rizwan explained that the Engineering and Capital Projects Departments could be considered one department because of how closely the teams work on these major projects.

“The Port Authority of NY & NJ is a terrific agency to work with,” said Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan. “Big developments are being made and it’s all hands on deck to keep the region moving.”

The Alliance for Action is grateful to Rizwan and the Port Authority team for showing us around the George Washington Bridge and allowing us to see the “Restore the George” program in action. The agency is investing billions of dollars annually to keep the people of the northeast region connected.

The Alliance for Action is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024. Since 1974, we’ve worked as a non-partisan and non-profit association representing thousands of business, labor, government, utility, education, professional, and other New Jersey leaders. Our mission is to improve New Jersey’s economy through the promotion of environmentally friendly capital construction and infrastructure investment.
