NEWARK, NJ (May 15, 2026) – Decision-makers behind the most important infrastructure project in the nation shared details this morning on upcoming investments and opportunities at the NJ Alliance for Action’s “Gateway: A Defining Moment” event.
Gateway Development Commission CEO Tom Prendergast and Chief of Program Delivery Jim Starace were the featured speakers.
“The Gateway Program, particularly the Hudson Tunnel Project, is the most important infrastructure project in the nation. This work will replace aging infrastructure, transform how people move through the region, and benefit the economy for generations,” NJ Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan said. “It is crucial that we continue to advocate for this project until it is completed.”
Following the freeze of federal funds earlier this year, construction on the Hudson Tunnel Project resumed in February and Gateway is moving “full steam ahead”.
Six of the 10 Hudson Tunnel Project construction packages are currently completed or in progress. The seventh package — for the NJ Surface Alignment Project — will be awarded soon and will connect the existing Northeast Corridor tracks in New Jersey to the new tunnel entrance.
Upcoming construction opportunities also include the A-Yard & 10th Ave. Tunnel Project, connecting the new tunnel to existing NY-Penn Station tracks and systems and fit-out, which is currently in pre-procurement.
Prendergast and Starace also announced the New Jersey Community Engagement Center will be coming to Weehawken this month. The center will welcome stakeholders and the public to ask questions and learn more about the Hudson Tunnel Project.
In addition to gaining first-hand insights into upcoming construction and how to get involved, this morning’s guests also engaged in a Q&A session to gain more specific information. Both Tom Prendergast and Jim Starace were also available before and after the presentation to speak and connect with attendees.
