MONROE, NJ (April 16, 2026) – Millions are being invested across New Jersey’s coasts and waterways by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and NJ Department of Environmental Protection to build vital infrastructure, continue environmental remediation, and improve resiliency. Attendees at the Alliance for Action’s “Historic Investment in New Jersey Coasts and Waterways” got all the details this morning.

These projects go well beyond routine maintenance and are designed to protect coastal communities from future storm damage, strengthen the infrastructure that supports daily life and commerce, and create a steady pipeline of construction work across the region. Investing in resiliency now is the difference between managing risk and paying for it later.

“As a coastal state, bordered by two major cities, investment in the maintenance and improvement of NJ’s shores, waterways, and supporting infrastructure is not optional, it’s a necessity,” NJ Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan said. “The work outlined today is preserving some of New Jersey’s most valuable ecosystems, creating countless opportunities, and boosting economies across the region.”

Lt. Col. Ryan Baum, District Commander of the Philadelphia District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, outlined upcoming work along the Delaware River Basin and the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Initiatives include Dredge Donnelly and other dredging projects, efforts to make beneficial use of dredged sediment, remediation work at former DuPont Chambers Works, and the Coastal Storm Risk Management Program.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New York District 55th Commander and District Engineer Col. Alexander Young outlined upcoming military, dredging and other projects across the district. Major projects include the Merchant Marine Academy and substantial dredging work in the NJ/NY Harbor.

NJ Department of Environmental Protection Assistant Director of the Division of Resilience Engineering & Construction Erick Doyle spoke about several projects and resiliency efforts, including the Rebuild by Design Hudson River Project, Rebuild by Design Meadowlands projects, including Riverfront Park and East Riser Ditch Improvements.
