Lawrenceville, NJ (January 21, 2026) – Transformative projects are coming to Mercer County, and speakers from local government, business and large-scale utility and healthcare providers shared details at the Alliance’s Mercer County Chapter this morning.

“There is a renaissance happening in Mercer County with major investments to expand quality healthcare, improve energy grid reliability and access to clean water, and strengthen communities through construction of parks, retail space, and athletic facilities,” NJ Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan said.

Mercer County Executive Dan Benson outlined major developments across the county. Investments include about $25 million in upgrades at the Trenton Thunder Ball Park, urban redevelopments, up to $3 billion on Route 29, over $4 million in improvements to South Broad Street, and $200 million revitalization at the Trenton-Mercer airport. Benson also highlighted the reconstruction of Old Eagle Tavern, the arrival of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to Hamilton, and the return of minor league hockey to Trenton with the new Trenton Ironhawks.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Senior Vice President of External Affairs Peter Grollman outlined recent and upcoming construction, including the Morgan Center for Research and Innovation, Roberts Children’s Health at CHOP, and upcoming development in Hamilton..

Aqua New Jersey President Natalie Chesko said the utility invested $55 million in 2025 to replace and rehabilitate aging infrastructure, including PFAS removal plants, water mains, wastewater treatment plants, and wastewater collection systems. The projected spend over the next five years is over $263 million. Aqua NJ also has achieved 100% water and wastewater compliance across all of its systems the past four years.

PSE&G Senior Project Manager Nickell T. Joly detailed current and upcoming projects in Mercer County, including Ridge Road Station Class H Upgrade, Trenton LPGFC Replacement, White Horse Distribution Circuit Reinforcement and the Lawrence-Trenton 26kV Relay Upgrade. The projects will improve reliability and resiliency, while maintaining existing infrastructure.
