MONROE, NJ (October 2, 2025) – Over 500 construction industry professionals joined the New Jersey Alliance for Action for the 23rd Annual Statewide Transportation Conference to connect with industry leaders and to find out what’s building across New Jersey’s powerhouse transportation system. The conference gathered decision-makers from major transportation agencies, federal and state government, business, and labor to present on billions in upcoming transportation investment.

“New Jersey is a transportation powerhouse and home to some of the largest transportation systems in the nation,” said Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan. “The Alliance is a longtime advocate for investing in these vital systems to keep people connected to work, leisure, and the many beautiful and unique parts of our state.”

Event Chair Tonio Burgos provided opening remarks and introductions for Governor Phil Murphy and FTA Administrator Marc Molinaro.

Molinaro said it is a “golden age of opportunity” for transportation and discussed New Jersey’s economic importance, policy changes under the new administration, and the administration’s transit investment in New Jersey. He also emphasized the need for innovation and focus on improving rider and worker safety.

Special Advisor to the Amtrak Board of Directors for the Redevelopment of New York Penn Station Andy Byford outlined goals for the project including increased concourse capacity and access, enabling safer and more efficient station operations, and accommodating passenger service growth. He said the construction is expected to begin by the end of 2027.

New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Fran O’Connor emphasized the importance of road safety initiatives. He also shared details on NJDOT’s $5.3 billion 2026 Capital Program.

NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri detailed $8 billion in expected capital expenditures across the next 3 years. Upcoming opportunities include Walter Rand Transportation Center, Hoboken Terminal Structural Repairs Phases 2 & 3, and Newark Penn Station Platform D and Platform Roof H.

Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Rizwan Baig shared details on the beginning of AirTrain and EWR Access Projects at Newark Liberty International Airport and the completion of $2 billion in George Washington Bridge projects.

Gateway Development Commission Chief of Program Delivery Jim Starace announced a milestone for Gateway saying that for the first time ever, the staging areas on either side of Tonnelle Ave. are connected from west to east. He also provided updates on other gateway projects namely the Hudson Tunnel Project which has created 95,000 jobs and generated $19.6 billion in economic output during its construction. GDC currently has 5 active contracts with 2 additional contracts to be awarded in early 2026.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority Executive Director Jim Carone announced that the Newark Bay Hudson County Extension Improvements project will award the first 2 major construction contracts in fall of 2025. He also said that the Grade Separated U-Turn Program will award 2 construction contracts in early 2026.

South Jersey Transportation Authority Executive Director Stephen F. Dougherty provided updates on the agency’s advancement towards all-electronic tolling (AET) saying that all gantries have now been installed.
